I somehow missed your review Jane. I'm just reading this now and am seriously struggling, i'm finding the religious aspect (which is present in all) especially suffocating in this one in parts and despite being almost 2/3 of the way through now i'm still wondering when it's ever going to get started/going?

Good grief. I know nothing. My dad bought me Far Distant Oxus and I remember reading it with a torch under the sheets at night when I was supposed to be asleep. I never realised it was so old: I thought it was far more recently written.
Nice to see a mention of Monica Edwards - I adored her books and was so excited when I found out that her stories were based on real horses, people, places and events.

Ouch! Good thing Anna didn't survive long after to see just how massive a hit it became. Fifty million copies and still selling, and still at or near the top of current best seller lists. Black Beauty did however, contribute massively to equine welfare: as well as raising awareness, Ann Lindo was inspired by reading it to set up the world's first equine charity, The Home of Rest for Horses (now the less inspiring sounding Horse Trust) to provide a sanctuary for the elderly and worn out working horses of London.

These book posts are always so fascinating - I'm looking forward to seeing your book too: when's it due?

I was fortunate enough to work with Janet for many years and have always admired her as a writer and a friend. I have read all six books in The Pony Whisperer series and loved every single one of them. There are lots of 'issues' in the books that every young pony mad girl - or boy - might have to deal with in their lives, but the underlying fact is that her pony Drummer is always there to make everything seem better. A great read, would highly recommend them to both adults and children.
