I also had the older style jodpers not high quality but the stretchy ones hadn’t come in then. I had so many happy hours riding. I used to make the saddle cloths for my pony so that he looked colourful. I explored most of Bath where I grew up on the back of my horse, I knew all the back lanes and streets, not so much traffic then. Wonderful. <br />MaryBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06484547773951002322noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8782167599693788794.post-45523869088381884852023-12-01T18:36:48.231+00:002023-12-01T18:36:48.231+00:00I worked at Smiths in Holyport in 1964/65 as a gro...I worked at Smiths in Holyport in 1964/65 as a groom. When Nancy left I was made up to head girl. Ken Mead was manager then, although his father still made his presence felt. There was a pretty welsh pony (I can't remember the name)with a long flowing mane and a tail which swept the ground. I recall that on one occasion when both Ken and Miss Smith were out for the day Mr. Mead snr shut himself in the pony stable and when he emerged the mane and tail were all but gone! He was not too popular with anyone! I cannot remember all of the names, but Heather, Jean Louis, Jorrocks, Claremont, Samba and Bonnet (a livery) were amongst those in the main stables. Myrtle was still there in one of the front boxes, and of the ponies I can only remember Juniper by name now. We were told that Juniper was originally destined to be Prince Charles's first pony, but was considered too lively.susan bishopnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8782167599693788794.post-44593825696839983812023-11-27T02:06:01.077+00:002023-11-27T02:06:01.077+00:00I also read the Pullein-Thompson sisters and Pat S...I also read the Pullein-Thompson sisters and Pat Smythe books! I was searching to find the book recently and only came across it yesterday online. I am now 59.I moved to the country from suburbia 19 years ago and going trecking near my house it reminded me of an illustration in the book of Jan (only know the name now after reading this) on her horse and beyond the fields a church spire in the distance and I just thought this is it! I am where I'm supposed to be! I did remember that her love interest was called Guy! I now have to get a copy of the book and read it again 40 odd years later! I wasn't overly enthusiastic at wearing them, because I knew that they were out of fashion by then. Mum, being ever short of money, made me wear them for my riding lesson later on that week. I had never felt as embarassed in my life as I took part in that lesson. Others on the ride had the stretch ones even my two friends who weren't as 'horsey' as I was. I wanted the ground to swallow me up there and then as I felt I was getting laughed at. It would have been less embarassing to wear jeans. Mum did get me a pair of secondhand stretch ones, however, when I complained that I was the odd one out!Janine Mellorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02092782931010483813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8782167599693788794.post-44545730136096201572023-07-25T21:17:42.091+01:002023-07-25T21:17:42.091+01:00Bunts is really Stubbs, a farm labourer's cott...Bunts is really Stubbs, a farm labourer's cottage (Iping, Nr.
